Framed Print of Navy Mixture tobacco, 1922
Players Navy Mixture tobacco fold-out counter card in three sections in the form of a picture frame or dressing mirror. The general background is printed to resemble wood grain. In an oval frame on the back section is a three-quarter length picture of a sailor. He is looking over his shoulder, out of the picture, and is smoking a pipe. His hat band reads ENOWN'. In the background is the silhouette of a warship. The text on the picture reads PLAYERs // NAVY // MIXTURE'. The centre section comprises a pyramid of 3 tobacco packs, the top of which pops out through an oval cut out in the front section, which resembles the support or foot of the mirror frame. Either side of the cut out is the text MILD, // MEDIUM // AND // WHITE // LABEL'. Below are three panels which read MILD // STRENGTH // 1/- // PER OZ. WHITE // LABEL // 10 1/2D // PER OZ. and MEDIUM // STRENGTH // 1/- // PER OZ.'. On the reverse is a label which reads MARDONS // WINDOW NOVELTIES // EMBOSSED SHOWCARDS / &C, &C // VARNISHERS // GELATINERS and FRAME MAKERS // BRISTOL and LONDON. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
