No. 3 cigarettes, 1922
Players No. 3 cigarettes counter card. The top section is in the shape of an oval picture or mirror frame. It shows a man in eighteenth-century costume with a queue wig seated in front of a writing desk or bureau. He is smoking a cigarette and there is an open box of cigarettes on top of the bureau. Below are packets and boxes of No. 3 cigarettes and some loose cigarettes. There is a panel which reads " PLAYERs // NO. 3 // Virginia Cigarettes. // SOLD BY WEIGHT // & IN CARTONS OR 10&20. // JOHN PLAYER & SONS NOTTINGHAM". On the reverse is a hanging loop and a support to allow the card to stand upright. There is a hand-written note which dates the card to 1922-2. There is a label which reads " MARDONS // MANUFACTURERS OF // WINDOW NOVELITES // EMBOSSED SHOWCARDS &c &c // VARNISHERS // GELATINERS & FRAME MAKERS // BRISTOL & LONDON" on which has been written in black ink " 25/11/22"
